Langley Blaze 4Peat KR3 “Best of the West”
Another great weekend of Baseball at the KR3 “Best of the West” Tournament hosted by Marty Lehn and the Big League Experience Baseball Camp. The weather once again was accommodating and at times very pleasant for this past weekend that had two Divisions (Bantam and Premier) battle for early season bragging rights.
The Premier baseball tournament is considered one of the best pre draft tournaments in the country for scouts to assess the talent prior to the MLB June draft. This past weekend we saw 16 scouts show up who represented 12 different Major League teams as well as college recruiters and coaches that represented 6 different colleges.
Once again it was the Langley Blaze that prevailed to 4peat as champions with a victory over the Okotoks Dawgs. It was the strength of their hitting in the championship game with 3 home runs (2 by Nick Rutckyj and 1 by Mason Cratty’s) and solid pitching (Kyle Ross and Kristjan Storrie) that allowed the Langley Blaze to take home the crown. The Dawgs from Okotoks had a solid weekend as well and qualified for the Championship game with their exciting Semi Final win over a very good Vauxhall Academy team. It was probably one of the best games of the tournament as Okotoks pulled some late heroics with 4 runs in their last at bats to win 4 – 3. The big question is; Can the Langley blaze 5peat or is there going to be a different Champion next year.
