Baseball Scouts Looking for the next Big Leaguer
Best of The West Tournaments run three times a year for a total of 6 events ranging from Bantam AAA/AA to a Premier Showcase every April. The BOW Tournaments are highly regarded because of the facilities (McArthur Island – Kamloops, BC), competitive balance and range of opponents, not to mention the exposure for young ballplayers to collegiate recruiters, Canadian National Team/T12 Coaches and Professional Scouts.
Every September BLE hosts a Showcase Qualifying Tournament as well as a Bantam Fall Ball event. The teams who enter the Showcase Qualifier compete to take part in the BLE Showcase the following April, a highly scouted event.
Early in April, BLE will host 4 tournaments over back to back weekends for Bantam (2), Midget/JrPBL and the Premier Showcase.
Besides a long list of National Team players and collegiate athletes, the following players who have taken part in these tournaments are in the MLB or very close to or have played in the MLB!
James Paxton – Seattle Mariners
Nick Pivetta – Philadelphia Phillies
Tyler O’Neill – St. Louis Cardinals
Rowan Wick – San Diego Padres
Mike Soroka – Atlanta Braves
Michael Saunders – Baltimore Orioles
Dustin Houle – AA for Brewers
Justin Morneau – Retired
Brett Lawrie – Free Agent
When asked “why the attraction to this baseball tournament?”, the tournament director and Scout for the Milwaukee Brewers Marty Lehn commented, “it’s a one stop shop as we’re able to check out Western Canada’s best baseball talent in one location.” Will there be another major leaguer in the tournaments this year?….Well maybe, maybe a few, we’ll have to wait and see!
