Best of the West – Taking it to the next Level
This past weekend the Big League Experience hosted the #1 scouted high school baseball tournament in Western Canada for those players wishing to Showcase themselves to Major League Scouts and College coaches/recruiters. 16 different Major League Clubs had representation there along with 10 colleges.
Over the weekend many notes were taken on the pro side as players will be followed over the next few month and decisions will be made come the June MLB draft on prospects being signed to a pro deal. On the college side those same notes happened, however on the college side of the game moves to progress and get players to commit happens sooner. A number of players from this weekend committed to their college of choice.
Thompson Rivers University head baseball coach Ray Chadwick not only approached a number of players about his program but entered a team in the tournament of his recruits and signed a few them to join his team for the fall of 2016. Along with Coach Chadwick’s program, two of his college league competitors also were in attendance as the Prairie Baseball Academy (5 consecutive championships in a row) and Okanagan College were approaching players with the same mind set.
Every year out of the elite baseball programs in Western Canada many players will move on to the next level and the “Best of the West” Showcase Invitational is that one stop event that will showcase those players. Take a look at coverage conducted by Chad Klassen of CFJC Today
